We are looking for a talented and motivated early-career researcher (m/f) to join the team of Dr. David Castel (Genomics and Oncogenesis of Pediatric Brain Tumors). The laboratory bridges state-of-the-art multi-omics technologies, molecular biology, and histopathology with clinical patient care. The research is conducted in close partnership with the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Oncology at Gustave Roussy and the Department of Neurosurgery at Necker–Enfants Malades Hospital in Paris.

The laboratory hosts a research program led by Dr. Anne-Florence Blandin and Dr. Samuel Abbou, dedicated to developing innovative liquid biopsy approaches for patients with diffuse midline glioma (DMG/DIPG). The goal is to establish more sensitive methods for disease monitoring and early recurrence detection, while actively exploring avenues for more effective therapies.

What will you work on?

You will take part in projects utilizing state-of-the-art technologies in modern translational medicine, including:

  • Development and validation of novel genomic methods for the detection and quantification of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA)
  • Isolation and characterization of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from blood and cerebrospinal fluid
  • Application of Droplet Digital PCR and single-cell RNA sequencing to identify novel DMG biomarkers
  • Biobanking of patient-derived biological specimens
  • Investigating the use of focused ultrasound for blood-brain barrier opening (FUS-BBBO) to enhance liquid biopsy sensitivity and improve brain penetration of anticancer therapeutics
  • Preclinical testing of novel therapeutic strategies in cell and animal models of DMG
  • Evaluation of drug pharmacokinetics, biodistribution in tumor tissue, and biological tumor response to therapy

You will have the opportunity to independently design experiments, analyze data, present findings at laboratory seminars, and actively contribute to peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Who are we looking for?

We welcome candidates with a strong interest in:

  • Molecular biology
  • Genomics
  • Experimental and translational oncology
  • Cell biology
  • Pediatric neuro-oncology

Prior experience with molecular biology techniques, flow cytometry, or handling human biological specimens is an advantage. Most essential, however, are genuine motivation, independence, analytical thinking, meticulousness, and a drive to contribute to research with direct translational impact on patient care.

Why this position?

Diffuse midline glioma (DMG) remains one of the most aggressive childhood malignancies, and despite significant medical advances, treatment options remain severely limited. Every new biomarker, every innovative diagnostic assay, and every step toward improving drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier can represent a vital breakthrough for future patients.

This position provides a rare opportunity to conduct research at one of Europe’s premier cancer centers, collaborate within an international team of leading experts, and participate in science that connects rigorous laboratory research directly to clinical practice.

If you are looking for a research role with true purpose—one that can help change outcomes for children diagnosed with DMG—we would love to hear from you.
